Support Street nurses
As a young nurse, Émilie Meessen was astonished by the number of people living on the streets of Brussels, despite the abundance of medical and social associations. Together with her friend Sara Janssens, they decided to establish the non-profit organization Straatverplegers in 2005.
Straatverplegers is made up of a multidisciplinary team comprising nurses, social workers, educators, a doctor, and a supportive management team: there are 50 employees (f/m/x) in Brussels and 10 in Liège. The organization is active on the streets, making home visits to re-housed individuals and helping them find housing. It also focuses on raising awareness and influencing policy to find structural solutions to end homelessness in Brussels, Liège, ... and beyond.
